Updated : 2025/04/25
On the afternoon of April 24, 2025, the University of Languages and International Studies had the honor of welcoming a delegation from the National Council of Elders (NCOE), USA. The visit was part of an initiative to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the two nations
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Long, Rector of the university, expressed his honor in welcoming the delegation and emphasized the significance of the visit. He regarded it as a valuable opportunity for mutual exchange and learning, as well as for spreading meaningful values across generations and cultures.
In an open and sincere atmosphere, both sides shared stories, perspectives, and expectations regarding future cooperation. The NCOE delegation included many veterans who had participated in social movements in the United States during the 1960s, as well as young members currently engaged in efforts for peace and social justice. Notably, Mr. Frank Joyce – the head of the delegation – expressed a strong desire to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to gain a deeper understanding of the legacy of the Vietnam War and to participate in the celebration of Vietnam’s Reunification Day on April 30.
The working session also featured a presentation titled “The Development of Culture and Education in Vietnam and Da Nang since 1975,” delivered by Ms. Trần Thị Ngọc Hoa, Vice Dean of Faculty of International Studies. The presentation provided valuable insights into the positive transformations of the country in general and Da Nang City in particular after the war, especially in the fields of education and cultural preservation.
The meeting concluded with heartfelt sharing from both sides, symbolic gifts of flowers and souvenirs as tokens of appreciation, and a commemorative photo capturing the spirit of connection between people from two countries and two generations – united by a shared belief in peace, friendship, and mutual understanding.
