Faculty Overview:
The Faculty of Chinese (FoC) was originally French-Chinese Division founded in 1994. At that time although there were only one permanent and two contract-based teachers, the division had received strong support from University of Foreign Languages – Hanoi National University, Military University of Foreign Languages, Guangxi Teacher Education Institute and especially from University of Language Teacher Education (formerly University of Foreign Language Studies - the University of Danang). The division had the first matriculation for Bachelor of Chinese with 24 students. At that time Danang University of Foreign Language Teacher Education was one of the six universities that had the enrolment in Bachelor of Chinese when the China and Vietnam relations were normalized.

- In 2003, Division of Chinese merged with Division of Japanese and formed Chinese‑Japanese Department of UFLS –UD. With the increasing social demand of language use, the efforts of teaching staff as well as learders’ encouragement, the University of Danang decided to officially establish the Faculty of Chinese on the basis of partitioning Chinese and Japanese Department.

- Through over 15- year development, from a small number of three teachers who were in charge of teaching language skills only, the number of teaching staff increased to 15 and are responsible for 90% of all majors. Currently four master candidates are trained in China. The others are qualified teachers with distinction and high distinction graduation and they are going to attain training master courses in the next few years. The number of enrolments is gradually increasing. Some years ago, the Faculty had the enrolment of one class for one major. Up to now, the enrolments have increased to four classes with two programmes: Bachelor of Chinese Teacher Education and Bachelor of Chinese.

- From the anniversary date, the former Chinese Division and the current Faculty of Chinese (FoC) has provided human resource training to universities, institutes of Chinese cultural research and foreign partners and has played an important role of enhancing knowledge together with the socio-economic development in Vietnam. FOC has worked closely with businesses, foreign language centres, and overseas worker training organisations, so that it can offer suitable majors and programs in the regions. At undergraduate level, FOC has trained nearly 400 students in the last ten years. And the number of students who are employed right after graduation is high, in which 90% of graduates get the right job relevant to their specialisation.

FOC alumni have been recruited in different areas from north to south, the majority have worked in Central Vietnam and the South. The companies have given positive feedback to the training quality of FOC. Every year, it welcomes 15-20 visiting businesses and enterprises that are eager to look for and recruit competent students.

- In terms of international relations, FOC has consulted the school authority regarding the international cooperation, not only with universities in China but with other universities and organisations in Taiwan as well.

- Toward the new situations and challenges from social demand, FOC recognizes that the quality of teaching staff and education would be key to success. Therefore, UD Board of President, UFLS Board of Rectors, FOC Board of Deans and its academic staff always stay focus on seeking initiatives and innovations in improving training and academic staff quality. In the coming years, apart from quality improvement, FOC will make plans for graduate quality enhancement and then will expand its size and types of programmes.
