Faculty Overview:
The Faculty of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) was dated back as an English-French Division at University of Polytechnics in 1992, and then renamed as Non-English Major Division in the faculty of English at University of Education. The Faculty of Non-English Major was founded in accordance with Decision No. 63/QĐ-ĐHĐN signed by the president of the University of Danang on 1st Feb 1999. The faculty was named again as the Faculty of ESP at University of Foreign Language Studies in 2003.
The faculty offers English training courses to thousands of full-time secondary and university students at 4 affiliated members of the University of Danang (UD): University of Technology, University of Education, University of Economics and College of Technology. In addition the faculty is in charge of teaching English for master students of economics and technology as well as it offers foreign-affair support to International Relation Department in UD.
Organizational Chart:
The faculty has 38 staff, of which there are 34 staff including 02 doctoral degree holders, 32 master-degree holders. Some of the lecturers have been doing training courses at the University of Queensland, Australia.
The faculty board consists of one dean, three vice deans and four heads of divisions: Second Foreign Languages Division, Tourism Division, Business English Division and Non-English Major Division. There is a Communist Party Committee with six members in the faculty.
Training Missions:
The faculty provides teaching English for specific purposes to all faculties in the University of Danang with 2 levels: basic and specialized English. Particularly the faculty offers the following ESP major courses:
At University of Technology and College of Technology:
+ English for Mechanical Engineering, English for Mechanics and Electronics, English for Information Technology, English for Electrical Engineering, English for Chemistry, English for Environmental Issues, English for Informatics and Statistics, English for Energy, English for Construction.
At University of Economics:
+ English for Tourism, English for Administration, English for Accounting, English for Banking, English for Commerce, English for Business Management, English for Informatics and Statistics, English for Economic Development.
At University of Education:
+ English for Chemistry, English for Physics, English for Mathematics and Computer Science, English for Geography, English for Biology, English for History, English for Literature, English for Education.
The faculty aims:
- to improve learners’ communicative skills in daily topics and situations.
- to provide learners with basic English knowledge necessary for their future career.
- to build learners’ confidence in language uses and practices and to help learners develop learning autonomy after graduation.
