2018-2019 New School Year Ceremony

Joining the nationwide first-day-to-school atmosphere, on 10/9/2018, University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS) – the University of Danang (UD) held a ceremony to welcome the 2018-2019 new school year.

University of Foreign Language Studies – the University of Danang eagerly welcomed the new school year of positive changes followed by new successes. The school has so far offered 20 training programs delivered by 8 departments: Department of English, of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), of French, of Russian, of Chinese, of Japanese-Korean-Thai, of International Studies, and of Foreign Language Teacher Education, which has increased the number of full-time students to 6500 in total.

Alongside other members of the University of Danang (UD) and also under the leadership and support of the UD Communist Party and the UD Board of Directors, the University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS) has made enormous efforts to obtain proud achievements that contribute to the sustainable development of the UD. Assoc. Prof., Dr. Tran Huu Phu, the Principal of the university, stated: “The 2018-2019 school year will be an important year to the University of Foreign Language Studies. It is the year when we will be implementing critical missions determined at the preliminary summary meeting in the middle of the working term 2015-2020 of the UFLS and UD Communist Board of Committees, when we will accomplish the focused missions of the term 2014-2019, when we will continue operating as a recognized higher education organization that meets the national quality assurance standards, and when we will continue conforming to the Decision 29, titled “Fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education, issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.”

The strong development of the university within the past years has come as a result of collective efforts, solidarity, hard work, and commitment of many generations’ teachers and students. Such a success has also been maintained and greatly supported with care and guidance from the Ministry of Education and Training, Danang City, the University of Danang as well as cooperation from partner organizations, businesses, recruiters, and media companies.

Over a 33-year period of establishment and growth, together with the school development strategies for the upcoming time, all the university’s staff and students will stick together, determining to accomplish the missions set for the 2018-2019 school year, and to finally reach our goal, i.e., “building up University of Foreign Language Studies – the University of Danang as a key higher education organization of Vietnam, reaching regional and international levels.” This goal can be obtained with our focus on four essential elements: first, staying persistent and unceasingly enhancing the quality of training and teaching in relation to staff, program, content, teaching and learning methods; second, meeting the requirements in terms of facilities and school services; third, making plans, setting objectives, shaping research programs that meet international standards; fourth, internationalize school activities with effective international cooperation and transnational educational activities.

“Today all teachers and students of the University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS) start the new school year in a joyful and exciting atmosphere thanks to the achievements in different aspects of the academic year 2017-2018. Whereas many other schools had difficulty finding adequate prospective students, UFLS has seen very successful enrolment rate, receiving enough new students with fairly high entry scores to their programs. This result has confirmed the prestige and training quality of the university as a reliable foreign language education organization of the whole country.” – said Assoc. Prof, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, the Director of the UD at the ceremony.

 

Nguyen Phuong Thao, the freshman with top score entering the University (25,88/30 points), presented flowers to express gratitude to the leaders of Danang City, of the UD, and of the UFLS.

 

 

Also at the Welcoming Ceremony, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, a student of the class 18SPA01 and also the one with the highest score attending the university this year, represented all the freshmen giving a speech to show attitude to their families and teachers who had been very supportive throughout their making way to higher education. Phuong Thao shared: “Becoming a student of the University of Foreign Language Studies is not only our own pride but also a pride for our families and friends. On behalf of all this year’s freshmen, I promise we will try our best to study and research for the best possible results.”

 

In order to recognize student academic achievements of the school year 2017-2018, the Director of the UD and the Principal of UFLS presented awards to excellent students, class monitors, Student’s Youth Union members, and the new students with highest scores to the university and to each discipline. Besides, the attending companies and corporations awarded scholarships to diligent students with difficult living situations.
