Opening Ceremony of “Implementing ELTeach Program to Teachers of English” Training Course

On the morning of March 14, 2017, University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Danang (UFLS) and National Geographic Learning jointly organized the opening ceremony of “Implementing ELTeach Program to Teachers of English” training course. This course is part of the missions that the Management Committee of the National Foreign Language Project 2020, and the Ministry of Education and Training hold belief on UFLS to conduct successfully.

In the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Long emphasized the importance of English language ability for teachers in classrooms, and affirmed that the course was a necessity and would be of great help for the teachers in their teaching.

 Dr. Le Thi Giao Chi – Dean of Foreign Language Education Deparment said: “The ability to use English in classrooms is among the elements contributing crucially to the programme of fostering professional knowledge and ability for teachers of English language. This course is organized with the aim to equip UFLS lecturers with necessary knowledge and skills in their teaching practice.”

Mr. Paul Grainger from National Geographic Learning, Director of the programme, is in charge of the course. 24 UFLS lecturers have the opportunities to learn from Mr. Grainger not only skills and techniques of using English in classrooms but also methods to implement National Geographic Learning’s ELTeach programme. This programme has been successfully conducted among over 5,000 teachers of English language from 56 cities and provinces in Viet Nam and 19,000 teachers from 23 nations in the world. Furthermore, the participants are engaged in discussions about how to put theory into practice.

At the end of the course, UFLS lecturers are hoped to become professional trainers for teachers of English language at several high schools in Viet Nam in the ability to use English in classrooms and blended learning.
