Students of UFLS-UD won Third Prize of 2018 Student Writing Contest on ASEAN Integration

On October 24, 2008, at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) took place the final round of the "2018 Student Writing Contest on ASEAN Integration" jointly held by the Vietnam Diplomatic Academy (DAV) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Foundation .

The final round was held on October 24, 1818 at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in the form of a scientific workshop entitled "Envisioning ASEAN", in which 05 candidates not only presented on the chosen topic in their writing but also answered questions from the jury and audience in English with various topics such as the importance of educational exchange and vocational training programs for improving the quality of labor in ASEAN; ASEAN Dispute Settlement Mechanism; Japan's role in the process of ASEAN integration; Citizen involvement in the formation of ASEAN decisions and the legal basis for extraditing criminals in ASEAN.
 
In this finale, student Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa excellently won the Third Prize with the theme "Strengthening the Law on Criminal Extradition in the ASEAN Region." The contents of the presentation relate to the international legal basis of the extradition operation, the role of extradition to ASEAN security and external relations, the effectiveness of the existing legal basis and the proposals to strengthen the law on criminal extradition in this region. The presentation, including video clips, essays and lectures, by Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa under the guidance of Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Suong, Lecturer from the Faculty of International Studies, UFLS - UD received special attention from the jury in the final round and was highly appreciated in terms of practicality, ideas, implementation methods, writing style, form, content and presentation style. Kim Thoa is the only student in the Central Highlands region who was selected for the final round of this contest.

The "Student Writing Contest on ASEAN Integration" is a writing competition co- organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation (KAS) to promote greater understanding among young generations about the Southeast Asia, especially the issues that the region is facing. The contest is also aimed to seek for innovative ideas to accelerate the integration of ASEAN and the development of the ASEAN community. The competition started in March, 2018 and attracted the participation of students from universities nationwide, especially students in International Relations / International Studies. The candidates were asked to present their proposal on promoting ASEAN integration in a video clip of about 3 minutes in English. The jury selected 12 candidates qualified for the next round of writing an essay with the chosen topic between 2000-3000 words in English. After that, the top 5 contestants were selected to the final round to deliver their presentations.
