The National Conference “Design and Pilot Implementation of Online Placement Tests for Non-Language Major Students”

UFLS-UD hosted the national conference: “Design and Pilot Implementation of Online Placement Tests for Non-Language Major Students” on December 6, 2015.
This conference is one of the main categories assigned by the National Foreign Languages 2020 Project in 2015.
The conference attracted the participation of scientists, experts, presenters and 300 teachers from universities and colleges across the country.
In addition to the research papers of scientists and experts, the conference also received 20 papers written by researchers from prestigious universities such as University of Language and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hue University College of Foreign Language Studies,Ha Noi Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy, QuyNhon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Can Tho University.

Dr. Tran HuuPhuc – Rector of UFLS-UD delivered speech
At the opening speech, Dr. Tran Huu Phuc said: “With the prestige and the reputation that has been founded through 30 years of training and academic research, we had implemented a number of important tasks assigned by the National Foreign Languages 2020 Project. In which, we have been increasingly focused on hosting a number of academic conferences and symposiums at various scales in order to gather experts, linguists to exchange and share knowledge in the field of language teaching and learning. Typically the great success of the international conference: The Globalization and Localization in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (GloCALL 2013) through which both language teachers and learners in all educational levels gained great benefits from the efficiency of the application of information technology into teaching and learning. In early 2015, with the presence of dozens of leading experts from International TESOL association in Viet Nam for the first time, hundreds of national English experts, lecturers, and teachers gathered together for academic exchange at UFLS-UD. That was a clear proof of their scientific passion, the innovation, and updating language teaching and learning methods.Recently, we hosted national conference entitled “Integrating ICT into BA Programs in TEFL on October 17, 2015. Today, we continue to implement another important task in a series of academic activities in 2015 – the conference “Design and pilot implementation of online placement tests for non-language major students”.
He added, "We expect the efficiency of the deployment of all online placement tests for non-language major students will bring a new wind of language teaching and learning. I do believe that this conference will meet the expectation of those who are interested in the teaching and learning of non-language majors. We firmly keep on implementing the tasks assigned by the National Foreign Languages 2020 Projectto achievethe targets which the Government formulated, aiming to "comprehensively reform methods of foreign language teaching and learning in the national education system... to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country ".

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Si Thu said: “With the dedication, caring, responsibilities and professionalism in the organization and operation, UFLS-UD always gathers a lot of scientists, experts, and good lecturers so the academic activities carried out by the university always has the high scientific content, good quality, receiving the high appreciation of the Ministry of Training and Education, the Executive Boar of National Foreign Languages 2020 Project as well as Departments of Training and Education, universities, colleges across the country. The National Foreign Languages 2020 Project pays much attention to lecturers and non-language major students with the aim to reach the target of creating human resources that meet the requirements of our country when we are integrating internationally deeply and firmly.
He added, “Following the success of previous national and international conferences,this conference will unveil pilot models on English placement for non-language major students, contributing to enhance the efficiency of implementing online placement tests for non-language major students.”

The conference reflected the important role of teaching, learning and language assessment for non-language major students. This becomes more significant in the context of increasing international integration processes including the students outcomes of countries based on the standard framework of ASEAN.
In his closing speech, Dr. Tran HuuPhuc said: "The success of the conference provides an excellent platform for us to continue to enhance the implementation of online placement tests for non-language major students, thereby creating the accuracy, objectivity, effectiveness, contributing to the improvement of teaching quality in language majors, creating the human resources for our country in the period of integration, successfully implementing the goals assigned by The National Foreign Languages 2020 Project, taking part in completing the project of fundamental innovation and development of national education system.
